Decorating biscuits for Children In Need
15th November 2024
Today, it has been great to see so many children come into school in non-uniform / dressed in yellow to support Children In Need. Thank you to all parents who have contributed to the collection. It was also a fantastic afternoon of biscuit decorating and other activities related to developing an understanding of charity and this very good cause. Thank you to all parents who came along and supported the biscuit sale and thank you to our school council who did a brilliant job of distributing resources and ensuring the sale went well. Next week, we will share the total collected.
Mayor London Christmas Card Competition
1st November 2024
Every year, the Mayor of London, sends an official Christmas card to dignitaries across the city and worldwide. He is now inviting London school children aged 4 to 14 to create a design for this year’s card based on the theme, 'A new dawn, a fresh hope’. He asked pupils to show scenes that highlight the special kind of hope that Christmas represents, including the stories and symbols that bring love, peace and light to the depths of winter. By entering the competition, pupils stand the chance to feature on the Mayor’s 2024 Christmas card - sent to dignitaries across the world, including our sovereign, His Majesty King Charles III.
Design guidelines:
- All card designs should be created on white A4 paper
- Preferably landscape
- Must be in colour – coloured pencils, paint, crayons, and felt tips can all be used. However, pupils should not stick additional material (like tinsel, glitter, or sequins) onto the entry
- Should be an image only and not have any text
- Must be uploaded as a JPEG or PNG
- File size should be 20MB max
- You can scan or take a clear photo of the design
Local MP annual greeting card competition
18th October 2024
The competition is to design the card that the MP for Walthamstow, Stella Creasy, will send to over 4,000 local and national people to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah and the coming New Year. Every child under the age of 12 at the date of this letter who lives in the constituency is eligible to participate and participants are encouraged to use their creativity to express the celebrations of this time of year as well as what is special about our local community.
The winning design will be professionally printed on cards in full colour in A5 and send to over 4,000 people including the Prime Minister and members of parliament. In addition to having their design reproduced, the young person whose design is selected will be invited, along with their family, for a thank you afternoon tea in Westminster. This card is kindly supported and sponsored by local businesses and would not be possible without their support.
Please note the following guidelines for successful entries:
- Do not stick anything to the card nor use glitter
- Use lots of bright colours (felt tip or paint work best as the design will be digitally reproduced)
- Local references are encouraged
The closing date for entries is Thursday 28th November 2024 at 5pm.
All entries can either be posted to Ms Creasy's office (23 Orford Road, E17 9NL) or emailed as a jpeg or PDF to office@workingforwalthamstow.org.uk. Entries should include the name, home address, telephone number, school and age of the young person - they will not be considered without this information. If you have any questions about this competition, please feel free to get in touch with Ms Creasy's office on 020 8521 1223 or office@workingforwalthamstow.org.uk.

Art Smart Challenge
Summer 2
This half term's art smart challenge is to produce a piece of work in the style of Beatriz Milhazes. Beatriz is a Brazilian-born collage artist and painter known for her large-scale works and vibrant colours. She has been called "Brazil's most successful contemporary painter." As a painter, Milhazes uses a unique transfer technique, first painting on plastic sheets before peeling away the dried shapes and collaging them onto the canvas. When she peels the plastic away, the resulting image is superimposed onto the canvas. We look forward to all entries!
